I am so thankful to Penguin Random House and Edelweiss for an online copy of Hello, Ocean!, written & illustrated by Corinna Luyken! I can’t wait to add a copy to my shelves! I adore the ocean, Corinna’s work, and stories about being grateful for, and kind to, Earth! This book is all of those things and more!

Just look at that cover! It exudes so much joy - a child with her arms open wide, smiling, and perhaps laughing, too! As readers turn each page, they witness this child greeting so many wonders at the ocean, including her own toes touching the sand. She feels the wind and splashes in the water. The child’s joy has a powerful vibration. Her exuberance can be felt as she walks, skips, and jumps along, finding treasures like stones and sand dollars. Just as powerful is when she comes upon a pile of trash on the beach. The child’s bewilderment is palpable. With gratitude for what the ocean offers to her and the rest of the world, she and her family take action. They clean up the garbage reminding us of the importance and benefits to all of caring for our oceans and Earth. They want to continue to enjoy the ocean for the rest of their visit, visits to come, and for everyone to enjoy safety, wonder, and beauty! Corinna’s illustrations are expressive and impactful with a cooler to a warmer color palette as the story unfolds. A lovely, uplifting, inspiring book to buy, borrow, share, and gift!
