National Creativity Day, May 30!
Happy National Creativity Day!πππ I created this flower fairy the other day as part of my nature art practice. The wind once again gifted me with dahlia petals to create wings and a skirt while part of a gone by flower provided a colorful head. A small rock in one of our raised beds became the middle of the body and an even smaller rock, shaped like a heart, added a big dose of gratitude, joy, and wonder.β¨
Iβm learning a lot about my own creativity and its power while listening to Shamanic Creativity: Free the Imagination with Rituals, Energy Work, and Spirit Journeying written by Evelyn C. Rysdyk. Itβs helping me to center myself and continue to come from my heart when creating. Along with Evelynβs wisdom, KidLit author/illustrator, Jarrett Lerner, opened my mind and heart to a new way of thinking about being a creative. He shares about βnon-traditional forms of creativity.β With it, our ideas of what makes someone creative can be expanded.
A very special way I learn about creativity, and am inspired by, is through being with children. I have had the amazing gift of working in various capacities with children for many years. I could name so many ways that I see them as creative, but I will highlight the one that is most meaningful to me - the way of their BEing. Simply by being themselves, they create a world of wonder, curiosity, and authenticity. Look at the way they dance. That Iβve witnessed, they move their bodies in the ways they can and that they organically feel. Itβs very inspiring and freeing!
Below is one of my very favorite picture books, What Ifβ¦ written by Samantha Berger and illustrated by Mike Curato. Itβs all about the endless ways to create! I highly recommend it for your home, public, and school libraries! Read it, share it, gift it! Check it out from your local library or favorite indie bookstore!
Iβd love to hear how you like to create! Feel free to comment below!
